• France got Lebanon & Syria; Britain got Palestine, Jordan, & the two southern provinces of Iraq-Baghdad & al-Basra.

• After Turkey was defeated, the British army occupied Mosul.

• 1927 Iraq oil was divided into  portions between companies from Britain, France, Holland & of course the USA

The Iraqi people lost their oil wealth until 1958 when the Hashemite monarchy was toppled in a military coup. The Iraqi petroleum company [shared by British Petroleum, Shell, Mobil & Standard/Exxon Oil] was founded & within a few years had a total monopoly of Iraqi oil production

Around USD63 million is allocated for additional development, mainly of the Arrow Block III interceptor, which was recently successfully tested in Israel. The remainder was allotted for the Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI)/Boeing Arrow interceptor joint production program. "This will enable an increased production rate of interceptors," an industry source told JDW.

TEHERAN - Iran on Sunday ignored Israeli military threats & termed them "childish behaviour.""These kind of efforts to put pressure on Iran are childish behaviour from the Israeli side," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Assefi told reporters in Teheran.

Israel's Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz hinted Saturday that his country was even prepared for military action to stop Iran's controversial nuclear programme.

"Israel knows quite well what severe consequences such a mistake [military action] would have," the Iranian spokesman said.

US Considers Use of Nuclear Weapons Against Iran

WASHINGTON - The administration of President George W. Bush is planning a massive bombing campaign against Iran, including use of bunker-buster nuclear bombs to destroy a key Iranian suspected nuclear weapons facility, The New Yorker magazine reported in its April 17 issue.

If the Israeli nuclear arsenal is put in the negotiation table, there will be no problem. Iran and Arab states will welcome it and pledge to keep the Middle East as a nuclear-free region. 

So far, it's been a taboo for US politicians and journalists to mention the Israeli nuclear arsenal.

 

 

& THE UNITED ARAB NATION BEGINS

Arab League to pay Palestinian salaries Monday 01 May 2006, 18:11 Makka Time, 15:11 GMT  

Arab League, which has collected $70 million for the Palestinians, will pay the salaries of civil servants straight into their bank accounts.

A Hamas government spokesman said on Monday: "We have given the list & bank account details of the civil servants to the Arab League so that the salaries can be paid to them directly.

 "We have had a lot of contact with the Arab League & secretary general Amr Mussa to find a solution to the financial crisis as quickly as possible" Ghazi Hamas said.

 He could not say when the money would be transferred.

 The money collected by the 22-member Arab League only covers a fraction of the needs of the cash-strapped Hamas-led government, which requires about $240 million to pay its 160,000 employees for March & April.

 Cuts

 Banks have been reticent to transfer money to government accounts, fearing sanctions from the United States, which like the European Union considers Hamas a terrorist organisation & has refused any dealings with its government.

  Hamas has had to approach Arab governments, such as oil-rich Saudi Arabia, & Iran to fill in its ever-growing financial gap.

 Recognising Israel

 Hamas, a religious movement that has carried out the most suicide bombings in Israel since the start of the intifada but enforced a truce for the past year, overwhelmingly won the general elections in January.

 The leader of its politburo, Khaled Meshaal, insists that Israel must withdraw from the Palestinian territories it captured in 1967, including east Jerusalem, before his movement can recognise the Jewish state.

 Meshaal also said he wants to see Israel allow the return of refugees that fled or were expelled from their land in 1948-49 & 1967, release all Palestinian prisoners & dismantle the West Bank wall & every settlement.
