- between August 26 & September 11, 2001, a group of speculators, identified by the American Securities & Exchange Commission as Israeli citizens, sold 'short' a list of 38 stocks that could reasonably be expected to fall in value as a result of the pending attacks. These speculators operated out of the Toronto, Canada & Frankfurt, Germany, stock exchanges & their profits were specifically stated to be 'in the millions of dollars.'
Among the most conspicuous spikes in trading activity were the huge increases in 'put options' placed on the 2 airlines involved in the hijackings of Sept. 11, United Airlines (UAL) & American Airlines There was a 9,000 percent jump in United Air Lines (UAL) put options between Sept. 6 & Sept. 10, with a huge spike 285 times higher than average on the Thursday before the attack.
American Airlines saw a 6,000 percent jump in put options above normal the day before the attacks. However, there was no similar trading activity on any other airlines, according to market reports.
The brokerage houses that had offices in the WTC, Morgan Stanley & Merrill-Lynch, saw 27-fold & 12-fold increases in the purchases of put options on their respective shares between Sept. 7 & Sept. 10

COMPARE TO THE Photographs of Building 7 To the worst fire in Madrid's history ravages 32-storey skyscraper - FIRE LASTED WAY LONGER & DID FAR LESS DAMAGE & suffered far higher heat than 9/11 & was much older in structure?
Building 7 was not hit by any aircraft, & was not significantly damaged by the violent destruction of either of the Twin Towers & YET SUFFERED THE SAME RESULTS fires were observed in a few different parts of the building prior to its "collapse." Most of the fires were barely visible, & were not hot enough to cause window breakage, at least on the north side of the tower, of which there are photos shortly before the collapse. The largest observed fires were the ones visible on the southeast wall shown in the photograph.
There are no photographs that show large fires in Building 7. Professional photographer Tom Franklin did not take any photos of the building before heeding firemen's orders to evacuate the area; had there been large fires, one would expect that the would have documented them.

Excerpts from - First-hand Accounts of Underground Explosions In The North Tower - From Chief Engineer magazine presents eyewitness account of the moments after the first plane crash, & describes evidence of large explosions in the lobby, parking garage & subbasement levels of WTC-1 at the time of the crash. Mike Pecoraro was working in the 6th sub-basement of the North Tower when the first plane hit. At about 6:45 he went to the mechanical shop in the second subbasement, ate his breakfast & chatted with his co-workers who were also arriving for the normal 8:00 a.m. beginning of their shift. Here are some excerpts:

Deep below the tower, Mike Pecoraro was suddenly interrupted in his grinding task by a shake on his shoulder from his co-worker. "Did you see that?" he was asked.
Mike knew immediately that if the lights had flickered, it could spell trouble - a power surge or interruption could play havoc with the building's equipment - if all the pumps trip out or pulse meters trip, it could make for a very long day bringing the entire center's equipment back on-line.
Mike told his co-worker to call upstairs to their Assistant Chief Engineer & find out if everything was all right. Assistant Chief did not know what happened but that the whole building seemed to shake & there was a loud explosion - by the time the Assistant Chief got back to them, the room they were working in began to fill with a white smoke.
"We smelled kerosene," Mike recalled, "I was thinking maybe a car fire was upstairs", referring to the parking garage located below grade in the tower but above the deep space where they were working.

The two decided to ascend the stairs to the C level, to a small machine shop where Vito Deleo & David Williams were supposed to be working.

When the two arrived at the C level, they found the machine shop gone. "There was nothing there but rubble," Mike said. "We're talking about a 50 ton hydraulic press - gone!"
The two began yelling for their co-workers, but there was no answer.
They saw a perfect line of smoke streaming through the air. "You could stand here& two inches over you couldn't breathe. We couldn't see through the smoke so we started screaming." But there was still no answer.
The two made their way to the parking garage, but found that it, too, was gone. "There were no walls, there was rubble on the floor, & you can't see anything"
They decided to ascend two more levels to the building's lobby. As they ascended to the B Level, one floor above, they were astonished to see a steel & concrete fire door that weighed about 300 pounds, wrinkled up 'like a piece of aluminum foil' & lying on the floor.
He was convinced a bomb had gone off in the building.

One might consider the implications of what Mr. Pecoraro describes: At this point the only overt damage to the building was the plane crash some 95 floors above, which could not have caused violent explosions underground.

Since the towers were anchored at the base to the bedrock the shaking caused by the crash would have been greatest close to the crash site, getting progressively weaker as it approached the rigid attachment at the bottom.
Yet the underground damage he describes can not have been the result of a mere shaking - nothing short of an explosion could reduce the contents of a machine shop to rubble.

Damage to the North Tower Lobby

- The damage to the parking garage & lobby simultaneous with the first plane impact are also indicative of the effects of high explosives, with widespread blast damage & fine dust covering the entire scene.
supposedly it was first claimed that there had been an explosion caused by fuel pouring down an elevator shaft, but the lobby shows none of the soot or fuel residue we would expect from such an explosion. Instead we see blown-out windows & a fine dry dust covering the entire lobby, very much the signature of high explosives.
Similar damage to the parking garages & subbasements can only be explained by pre-placed explosive charges that were detonated at the moment of the plane's impact.
Construction worker Phillip Morelli describes being thrown to the ground by two explosions while in the fourth subbasement of the North Tower.
- The first, which threw him to the ground & seemed to coincide with the plane crash, was followed by a larger blast that again threw him to the ground & this time blew out walls.
He then made his way to the South Tower & was in the subbasement there when the second plane hit, again associated with a powerful underground blast.

Explosives expert Van Romero says: 'My opinion is, based on the videotapes, that after the airplanes hit the World Trade Center there were some explosive devices inside the buildings that caused the towers to collapse.'

The collapse of the buildings appears 'too methodical' to be a chance result of airplanes colliding with the structures.
However, Romero, who says he was on his way to the Pentagon to seek Pentagon research funding when the attack hit, reverses his stance 10 days later. [Albuquerque Journal, 9/21/01] Might his need for government funding have played a role in his change of heart?

- January 4, 2002 A firefighter trade magazine with ties to the New York Fire Department calls the investigation into the collapse of the WTC a 'half-baked farce.'

- The article points out that the probe has not looked at all aspects of the disaster & has had limited access to documents & other evidence. 'The destruction & removal of evidence must stop immediately.'
- It concludes that a growing number of fire protection engineers have theorized that 'the structural damage from the planes & the explosive ignition of jet fuel in themselves were not enough to bring down the towers.' New York Daily News
November 12, 2002 A new audio tape purportedly made by bin Laden, in which he praises recent terrorist attacks in Bali, Kuwait, Yemen & Moscow, is broadcast by Al Jazeera. [BBC]
- US officials believe the voice is 'almost certainly' bin Laden, but the Dalle Molle Institute for Perceptual Artificial Intelligence in Switzerland, one of the world's leading voice-recognition institutes, is 95% certain the tape is a forgery. BBC;
- Two weeks later, a British newspaper publishes the complete text of a 'letter to the American people,' purportedly written by bin Laden. [Observer] However, 'diplomats were skeptical about the authenticity of the document... ' [Guardian]

Washington Post will report in May 2002 that Defense Secretary 'Rumsfeld has been so determined to find a rationale for an attack that on 10 separate occasions he asked the CIA to find evidence linking Iraq to the terror attacks of Sept. 11. The intelligence agency repeatedly came back empty-handed.'
- TV news coverage on 9/11 repeatedly shows images of Palestinians rejoicing over the 9/11 attack. According to Mark Crispin Miller, a Professor of Media Studies at New York University who investigated the issue, the footage was filmed during the funeral of nine people killed the day before by Israeli authorities. He said 'to show it without explaining the background, & to show it over & over again is to make propaganda for the war machine & is irresponsible.' However, a number of strange facts about this video soon emerge.
- For one, all previous videos had been made with the consent of bin Laden, & usually released to the Arabic TV channel Al Jazeera.
- This video was supposedly recorded without his knowledge, found in a house in Afghanistan, & then passed to the CIA by an unknown person or group.
- Experts point out that it would be possible to fake such a video. So many people doubt the video's authenticity that Bush soon makes a statement, saying it was 'preposterous for anybody to think this tape was doctored. Those who contend it's a farce or a fake are hoping for the best about an evil man.'
Some observers point out bin Laden is wearing a ring on his right hand. In previous films, he had worn no jewelry apart from a watch Guardian
The German television show Monitor does an independent translation that questions the translation given by the Pentagon. Says Professor Gernot Rotter, scholar of Islamic & Arabic Studies at the University of Hamburg, 'This tape is of such poor quality that many passages are unintelligible. & those that are intelligible have often been taken out of context, so that you can't use that as evidence.
